Strong and elastic Adhesive

Conventional adhesives most often lack two important characteristics: strength and flexibility. Together, these characteristics create a long-lasting bonding that will endure for years to come. A great many adhesives possess the quality of being either flexible or strong, but flexible adhesives often have a weak bonding ability, while strong adhesives may be compromised by a lack of flexibility.


The solution

NautiChem P-Bond is a new kind of seam-bridging dual-component adhesive that creates a long-lasting, elastic bond, and that is suitable for use on various kinds of surfaces, and for gluing both thick and thin layers. Chemically, P-Bond is based on a composite of epoxy-resins and special Silyl-terminated polymers. A matrix of these polymers provides this adhesive with a high degree of elasticity and toughness, while the epoxy resins provide an exceptional degree of adhesive strength.

In contrast with conventional adhesives, including most epoxy and polyurethane-based glues, the advantage of P-Bond is that it retains a high degree of elasticity and adhesive strength over a wide range of temperatures and in a variety of conditions.

Initially, because of their rigid chemical composition, epoxy glues may seem to be excellent adhesives, providing a bond that has a high degree of strength. This rigidity, however, is very often accompanied by poor elasticity, with the end result that the bonds become hard and brittle. This has been demonstrated to be especially problematic with joints between substrates that have significantly different coefficients of expansion.

Polyurethane glues can be made to be very flexible in comparison with epoxy glues. Although the urethane linkages of the PU-molecules produce a high degree of adhesive strength, this adhesion often undergoes a significant weakening when the product is exposed to higher temperatures. Polyurethane glues are also less flexible and have poor adhesion at low temperatures.

Product properties

NautiChem P-Bond is noted for a range of positive characteristics and for its superior performance compared with conventional adhesives:

NautiChem P-Bond Composite-Adhesive is particularly recommended where a strong and durable elastic bond is needed. P-Bond’s strength of adhesion falls in the intermediate range between the commonly used epoxies, which are strong but brittle, and PU-glues, which are elastic but weaker.


NautiChem P-Bond Type SK is available in twin cartridges with a graduated mixing nozzle that mixes the necessary amounts of P-BOND components as the product is applied. We recommend keeping a supply of replacement nozzles on hand, as the nozzle may not completely clear each time the product is used. Small deviations in the mixing ratio have only negligible influence on the performance of the adhesive. P-Bond has a paste consistency and a short pot life, and once applied, cures within about 10 minutes at a temperature of 20°C /68ºF.

NautiChem P-BOND Type FL has a longer pot life than Type SK, and is characterized by its thixotropic or self-leveling consistency. Once applied, this formulation cures in about one hour at a temperature of 20°C / 68ºF. The longer curing time of this formulation makes it suitable for larger surface area applications.

P-BOND Type FS 2 has a low flammability and a longer pot life. This formulation cures in about one hour at a temperature of 20°C / 68ºF. The longer curing time makes this formulation suitable for larger surface area applications.
